The National Wooden Pallet & Container Association in conjunction with the Pallet Foundation announced in 2020 that an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) on wooden pallets were certified by UL. Pallets have long been known to be reusable, recyclable and have biodegradable qualities and the EPD quantifies the positive environmental impact of wooden pallets.

A critical component of the EPD was a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) that measured the impacts of a wooden pallet’s product stages including gathering, transporting and manufacturing raw materials, use and repair of the pallet, as well as its end of life usage. The report concluded that wooden pallets have a net carbon positive impact.
